"Le Ballet D'or" is the twelfth track on Counting Crows' 2008 album Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings.
In an early 2008 live performance, Duritz explained the meaning of the song[1]:
“ | This is about looking back at your life and realizing, if I just had done things a little differently, this could all have been a lot different. As the song starts off “Wasted time running scared when all love needs is to be believed in.” Which is an obvious thing to say, but not a simple thing to do.
And he goes through the seasons in the song, it’s kind of a companion song to Omaha in a way, that he’s looking at his life these different ways and he’s looking at all the places where it didn’t have to go as wrong as it did. It’s just that if I had been able to see things a little differently, I could’ve done things a little differently. And he kind of comes to the conclusion that I’ve got to stop being the way I’ve been and do something different. |
